Orthopedic Pioneer W. Andrew Hodge, MD Receives Prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor and Announces Appointment with The Scripps Research Institute

(PALM BEACH and JUPITER, FL) April 1, 2009 W. Andrew Hodge, MD, Founder and Chief Medical Director of the Institute for Mobility & Longevity has been selected as a recipient of the 2009 Ellis Island Medal of Honor.  Founded in 25 years ago by the National Ethnic Coalition Organization (NECO)a global non-profit with a mission to honor America's diverse past, advocate for positive change in the present and build strong leaders for the future. Palm Beach resident and NECO Chairman Nasser J. Kazeminy made the announcement.


NECO is a non-profit 501(C) (3) organization with strategic alliances that support a range of diverse programs that serve a variety of communities and cultures here and abroad many in the medical field.


Each year the Ellis Island Medals of Honor are presented on Ellis Island, in a dramatic ceremony, to American citizens of diverse origins for their outstanding contributions to their communities, their nation and the world.  Past Ellis Island Medal of Honor recipients include six Presidents of the United States, Nobel Prize scientist, olympic athletes, leaders in medicine and industry, famous celebrities and others whose work has made a lasting impact on humanity.

In other recent developments, Dr. W. Andrew Hodge announced his appointment as adjunct professor to The Scripps Research Institute � Scripps Florida.  Hodge brings over 25 years of clinical research findings and experience to the Department of Aging and Metabolism on the new Jupiter campus. 


 W. Andrew Hodge, M.D., FACS is a world-renowned orthopedic surgeon specializing in arthritis surgery and bioengineering research with surgical emphasis on improving total hip and knee  replacements.  Hodge holds several U.S. patents on orthopaedic implants and techniques, such as the 3D (Data Driven Design) Knee (TM), a knee replacement with increased strength, motion and durability.  He has published more than 100 articles in medical journals and his accomplishments have been presented in Science Magazine and on CNN, the Discovery Channel and local, national and international televised news programs.


Orthopedic Pioneer Hodge Receives Coveted Ellis Island Award/Aligns with  Scripps Florida...

In 1991, Hodge moved his hip and knee surgical practice to Palm Beach County from his Harvard/MIT origins and recently relocated to the Jupiter Hospital Campus in an effort to be logistically closer to Scripps-Florida.


Dr. Hodge will work  with Scripps-Florida by developing the new Center for Skeletal Aging Solutions.  According to Hodge, Aligning with one of the worlds foremost biomedical research entities is a truly unique and prestigious opportunity for our organization.  Further adding, This new center will begin by creating  a team to target why aging muscles and bones can fall apart.
