History

Dr.
W. Andrew Hodge is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in joint
replacement surgery of the knee and hip. As Medical Director of Hodge BioMotion
Orthopedics, Dr. Hodge is involved with all surgical cases directly. He received
special fellowship training in total joint surgery at Harvard's Massachusetts
General Hospital where he practiced for 10 years. Dr. Hodge also completed a
research fellowship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, after which he
helped design and construct Mass. General Hospital's Biomotion Laboratory.
In 1992 Dr. Hodge relocated his
clinical joint replacement practice and the research functions associated with
his organization to Florida. There, under the BioMotion Orthopedic Research Lab
moniker, the lab which executes programs for the BioMotion's Institute for
Mobility and Longevity, was born.
His research goals are to
accurately analyze the biomechanics of the hip and knee joints allowing better
implant design and surgical technique. In 1984, Dr. Hodge implanted a
radio-telemetry hip joint in a patient which, for the first time, measured the
stress on the hip during activities of daily living. In 1987, he founded the
BioMotion Foundation as we know it today as a non-profit, research and
educational organization, which now continues to provide valuable services from
its headquarters in Palm Beach, Florida and to the world.
Empowered by his extensive
orthopedic experience and 20 years of research data, Dr. Hodge designed and
patented a strong and long lasting knee prosthesis, the 3D knee (Data Driven
Design). Through the generous support of local donors, a newly designed, and
retooled Orthopedic Research Lab celebrated its grand opening in 2007, enhancing
the research and clinical goals established by Dr. Hodge and his staff to help
create a world where longevity and mobility are improved for all.
Dr. Hodge and the BioMotion
Orthopedic Research Lab team are nationally and internationally recognized for
excellence in total joint replacement, research and education. Yearly scientific
presentations at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and speaking
engagements and educational and surgical tours in Japan, Germany, Italy,
Argentina, Croatia and Saudi Arabia further enhance his vision for longevity and
mobility for all.
Today BioMotion contains 3
strategic pillars which include the clinical practice, the research division and
the international clinical division.
